Why are you interested in the Gandhi-King Community?
I've devoted my professional life to the study of King and the movements he inspired. Since receiving my doctorate from UCLA in 1975, I have taught at Stanford, where I am now professor of history and founding director of the King Research and Education Institute.
Dr. Carson, thank you for posting the pictures and sharing your wealth of knowledge on our trip to the South. I have learned a lot from you. Thank you again.
Thanks for inviting me into this network. It appears to be filled with incredible people and moving ideas. The pics will come, however, I just discovered that I've maxed my computer memory out, so it may take a week or so to come up with something. I wanted you to know that last week was the most amazing experience of my life.
To witness firsthand, the testimony and relationships and experiences that have always been a driving force of inspiration in my own life, from an early age, was a dream come true. Thank you so much for making it happen. It has re-energized me to believe unconditionally, in the power of humanity to overcome any obstacle of oppressive force with love, organization, spirit and truth. I look forward to contributing in any small way to the grassroots struggle for the freedom of humanity. Hopefully, see you next week.
Greetings Clay: Thank you for inviting me into this community. It will be personally rewarding. It will also be an important source of knowledge and information for my work in the grassroots communities of Gullah people as well as at the Medical University of South Carolina. I am thrilled to hear about your trip to India. How long will you be there? I would love to talk to you soon. Warmest personal regards. Keep on keeping on. jherman
Dr Carson
I am deeply appreciative of the work you do and want to thank you for inviting me to be a part of this community. I hope that I am able to contribute in some small way to the magnificant work that is displayed here.
Hi Mr. Carson,
I am one of the students from Riverside n I think Kiran ma'am's discussion on the man behind the mahatma is going to be a sucess.
I must say we REALLY enjoyed the Coffee at Riverside!!
Thank you sooo much
Hi Clay - my grade 7 has started signing up and are very excited about posting their learnings of Gandhi on your site for a more public participation : ) This is going to be great!!
Hi Kavya,
Yes, I plan to participate in the discussion as soon as I have some time. I'm very busy catching up and teacher since returning from India.
Clay
Hello Sir, this is Pooja also from Grade 7- Riverside (India). We have started a group of the "Man Behind The Mahatma" which is a partenered project with ACK and we would like you to start a discussion with us about that project.
Awaiting Reply,
Pooja Yadav
It will be a pleasure to collaborate closer with you, papá Clay, and your team.
Thanks for creating this space. It's already gathering a powerful energy from any number of satyagrahis. When the world is burning, the right question to ask is "What is being born?" and _we_ are being born. ;-)
Have a ONE-derful weekend!
If you want to be a rebel, be kind. Human-kind, be both.

Hi Clay,
I was reminded of our class because I just started reading John Carlin's "Playing the Enemy/Nelson Mandela and the Game that Made a Nation." Have you read it? It's great. What an amazing story, with lots of themes reminiscent of Gandhi and King. Your trip to India looked like a great experience! Hope you're well and having a good fall.
All the best,
John
Hi Clayborne,
Thanks for your welcome. We are preparing for MLK day here at Lee University. Will you consider coming to give a lecture/presentation on MLK day here? I am interested in your work in the area of Ghandi's influence on Dr. King and the implications it has for us today.
Hi Gautam,
Yes, I agree that such a panel would be useful, but it is difficult -- due to scheduling conflicts and expense -- to bringing a large number of such leaders together at one time. The King Institute and other entities at Stanford will continue to provide opportunities for veterans of the Freedom Struggle to talk about their experiences. During the past several years, speakers on campus have included Julian Bond, Clarence Jones, Dorothy Cotton, Vincent Harding, and others. We are currently seeking to sponsor similar events.
Clay
Hello sir, this Shouvik Mukherjee, from a small town near named Serampore Kolkata, West Bangal, India! I am really very happy to see this network on Mahatma Gandhi! Thank you sir! Thanks a lot!
This is a wonderful initiative and I would like to use this opportunity to commend you for bringing all those who share in the Gandhian-King philosophy of non-violence. This philosophy changed the course of human history into dignity for all. Professor Clayborne thank you so much. You will here much from me in subsequent comments
Warm Greetings from Uma in Atlanta1 I am very very happy and proud that you are visiting India once again to contribute to the 50th anniversary celebrations of Dr. King's pilgrimage to India. I'd love to hear more about your experiences and lectures upon your return to the U.S.
Hello Dr. Carson,
I really enjoyed meeting Dr. King's son and am going to start a conversation on it on this site. It would be great if you could join in!
Thank you, Dr. Carson, for the invitation. I will be eager to discover the dialogue that you are creating. It sounds very exciting, and the theme resonates deeply with me. Warmly,
Shelly (I am very pleased to be addressed that way!)
I love this site! What a great idea. We are opening a building for the Civil Rights Heritage Center we've had at Indiana University South Bend since 2000 and it will be great to get ideas from the site.
Thanks for creating this.

Hi Dr. Carson. This is Joycelyn Wilson, from Morehouse. Thanks for inviting me to join the network. Please visit my page. I've recently started posting pictures from the hip hop studies conference I just put on at Morehouse last week. It went really really good. This was the first type of intellectual gathering such as this at Morehouse. The students had a great time. I look forward to seeing you when you come for graduation.
Hi Dr. Carson,
I had to visit your site as part of an assignment and decided to stay :)
Thank you for your contribution to education and your efforts to keep the dream alive... I march along side of you!
I am delighted to start finding my way around this site and look forward to returning often. I just now signed up at the urging of Dr. Monica Tetzlaf in South Bend. I'm not sure if it will show up, but I tried putting into my profile here a link to a tribute I gave in a Quaker magazine for Dr. King on the 30th anniversary of his tragic death:
http://fum.org/QL/issues/9901/finke.htm
I look forward to sharing recollections from the '60s "Movement Days," but for now let me just commend you on not only bringing together hundreds of interested and dedicated folks here, but also making that crucial connection between the movement in India (and the preceding one in South Africa) and in the States. Truly a turning point in human history.
Thanks again, -DHF

PS - I hope you might be familiar with a weekly program produced om Atlanta by my sister: "The Paula Gordon Show: Conversations with People at the Leading Edge" which has featured many of the heroes and exemplars that both of us would put in our top listing of those who have affected history for the better: www.paulagordon.com
On the serious side, the education of our young is probably the most serious subject we have to deal with today. This problem is especially acute in the black community where literacy falters the most. There are many reasons for this, but the most acute is the lack of "predevelopment" in the home prior to their entrance into our school systems. The subject of "IRD" was especially developed with the lack of pre-development of children from poor backgrounds in mind. This agenda is presently being pursued at the highest levels of our government, but we must all come together as a community with a thorough understanding of the needs of these children.
The Knowledge Loom was especially created around the principles set forth in the subject of "IRD". This site is highly recommended for those seeking network camaraderie with others interested in the development of early childhood literacy skills. A wealth of professional experience and expertise is available, along with suggested lesson plans for those involved adolescent development.
It's a great feeling to be part of this community.I studied at Tagore's Santiniketan(MSW and PhD) where Gandhiji and King were the real heros and role models.Gandhiji was a great friend of Rabindra Nath Tagore and both symbolised thought and action leadership. The world, particularly India owed a lot these great men.Buddhha started a movement hundreds of years ago,Gandhi experimented successfully and King consolidated the movement--the result is Obama is the president of US.No effort goes waste,it takes its own time.
Good to be part of this forum, sure this forum will be great learning platform for me.
Respected Prof. Carson, Nice to have as a friend. I am Ph.D. in Public Administration and I have completed my Postgraduation Inthe Gandhian Thoughts. Please keep me in ur touch.
Thank you! for the appreciation and for creating this network. I am honoured to be a member of this community and I highly regard your work and mission.
