For Global Peace with Social Justice in a Sustainable Environment

New social media site for peace and social justice activism - Lokashakti.org

Hello everyone!  I wanted to tell you all about a new site I've been working on designed specifically for those of us working in the peace and social justice movement around the world.  It's called Lokashakti, which means "power of the people" in Sanskrit - a name we got from some writings of Vinoba Bhave's in the 1950s.

The URL is simply www.lokashakti.org.

The site is designed to provide one simple place to find out about groups and events around the world related to peace and social justice.  It's completely crowdsourced, meaning that anyone can upload an organization or event, as long as they've signed up for an account (which takes less than a minute).  It's also very much location-based, from the map organizations near where you live, to the events calendar, which we've tried to prioritize to let you search by location.  In this sense, it's more of an online tool designed to promote offline action - where real activism, and real social change have always taken place.

We'd love it if you wanted to create a page for whatever organizations you're involved with, or upload an action or event, showing people how they can become involved and helping make the directory more robust.  With a group of people as diverse and involved with the social justice movement as the Gandhi-King Community, we know there's no better place for us to reach out to help build our global resource.  Thanks for reading!

Peace,

Will Travers
