- DJ Matt Werner is a literary DJ from the San Francisco Bay Area DJing a weekly radio interview program on Fresh Air: The Alternative.
An Oakland native, Matt has DJed such venues as the Bill Graham Civic Center in San Francisco for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts for Youth Speaks' annual Bringing the Noise for Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and his Martin Luther King, Jr. mixes have been played on KPFA and Fresh Air: The Alternative.
In his DJ routines, Matt hopes to raise the level of public discourse by recontextualizing eloquent voices of the present and past in a format readily accessible to the web 2.0/hip hop generation.
Each week on his radio show, DJ Matt Werner interviews a provocative musician or author who’s challenging the status quo of the music or literary scenes. DJ Matt Werner has interviewed Talib Kweli, Saul Williams, Dahlak Brathwaite, Kid Beyond, Dave Smallen, Fr. Bruno Clifton, George Watsky, Ise Lyfe, MC Lars, and Maciej Zurawski among other artists.
