Why are you interested in the Gandhi-King Community?
I teach Hindi at INALCO, Paris.

With my students of English in an International school in Paris, and with support from people like Iranian Peace Nobel Shirin Ebadi, Noam Chomsky, Romila Thapar, etc. we proposed in 2003 the anniversary of the Mahatma's assassination as World Ahimsa Day - International Day of Non-Violence.

Finally the Indian government took up our proposal "anew" at the UN general assembly, which at its suggestion adopted Gandhi's birth anniversary, 2nd October, as the International Day of Non-Violence on June 15, 2007.

I have a dream...! with friends in Pakistan, to take down our own Berlin wall.

Posted on February 16, 2009 at 4:30pm 0 Comments

New Delhi. It is 16th February 2009. Through the settling pink dust of a high-tension St. Valentine's day we watch the illustrious band of American 'pilgrims' in the Indian capital, treading the path Martin Luther King Jr. and Coretta Scott King trod exactly 50 years ago seeking Gandhi. Gingerly treading on eggs rather, in fast-forward mode. Spending a whole month (Feb 10 - March 10, as in 1959) looking for the spirit of the Mahatma, in a Department-of-State sponsored tour may be imprudent… Continue
