Solution of future

Comment by Vidya Bhandarker on January 24, 2012 at 6:06am

I think I have found a space where my journey to pay a tribute to a people who gave the world a Mahatma will find resonance-South African Indians.  They marked 150 years of their presence on South African Shores.  Hopefully sometime this year the Govt of India may release a Commemorative Stamp as a tribute.  Due process will take 3 months.  Thus far I have pushed it alone-I need more people to be a part of this initiative.  I am very close to getting the release-but very far in terms of getting more people to join me on this journey.  I have a website www.freedomwalk.co.in for those interested in checking what I have been upto in the last year and a half.

Thanks, Clayton. I think she qualifies...there are so many more, some mentioned by P. Uday Shankar. I would like to offer the recently passed Sen. Edward Kennedy as an avid servant of the people if I may.

I definitely think she would be a great role model.

If I understand the term Sarvodaya properly, could we not also add Dorothy Day to the list?

Thanks for initiating a discussion in this group. I started it on behalf of the Sarvodaya network at Stanford University, but they use an e-mail list instead. So it's up to Gandhi-King members to decide what to make of this. Thanks P. Uday Shankar for noting some role models for Sarvodaya.

Dear Friends,

This network was a late discovery by me. I wish I had joined earlier.

As far as Sarvodaya is concerned I have five persons in my mind- Mahatma Gandhi, Vinobha Bhave (of the Bhoodan Movement fame), Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya (the one man behind the creation of India's largest university Banaras Hindu University-BHU Varanasi), Martin Luther King and Jayaprakash Narayan (the man who mentored bandits back to normal life and he was the one who put a full stop to dynastic democracy). I respect them a lot.

Hats off to Clayborne Carson for creating this group. As Morgana rightly points out, this group needs to take off.

Uday...
