A farse… Italian justice system was challenged yesterday to confront the case of satyagraha of the Cooperativa Le Due Valli.
Both public prosecutor and judge could not officially acknowledge the injustice of the law and the iniquity of the system and therefore passed a verdict of conviction of 60 days imprisonment, converted into a fine of 2000 euros, suspended sentence (probation) and no registration on my records.. the minimum they could pass.
I am free, no legal consequences, but disappointed. I had the chance to talk for 15 minutes, stood for the rights of the member of the cooperative to emancipate despite the laws that we consciously violated to expose the injustice of the system. I told them I was looking forward to spend some time in jail as I had a lot to read and write and, as a gandhian, doing some prison term would be for me a credit.
Once again I got their human sympathy, understanding, compassion and mercy, but no justice… there will be other occasions!
