Why are you interested in the Gandhi-King Community?
I'm a career educator and currently work for Facing History and Ourselves in the S.F. Bay Area office. While I'm invested in educational reform in general, I’m particularly interested in the intersection between pedagogy and content as a means of cultivating identity safe learning spaces.

I serve as the board chair for Literacy for Environmental Justice (LEJ) with the work there being centered on youth leadership cultivation through the lens of environmental justice and addressing urban environmental concerns among other quality of life issues.

I also serve on the board of The Working Group, who produce the Not In Our Town series about communities confronting hate violence as well as holding a commissioner's position on the San Mateo County Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention Commission.

In my spare time I'm an avid fisherman who loves to travel, cook and garden when time permits. I’ve also been doing a great deal of reading about the eugenics movement for the last several years as a way of understanding the ideological roots of scientific racism as well as looking for ways to reframe the conversation around race from one focused on individual intent or malice towards one that acknowledges and addresses the institutional and ideological legacies of eugenics in America and abroad.

Hi Clay,

I’ll be happy to support this work in any way I can. I sent an email to Andrea McEvoy and Jack Weinstein my colleague just today hoping to find a time for us to get more concrete on how we might support each others work. FYI – I sent that copy of Have You Heard From Johannesburg off to the national office for review and was delighted to hear that you got the funding to complete that project, as it’ll be a great resource for teachers.

Enjoy your time in Hawaii and I look forward to connecting w/ you soon and finding our more about your desires/plans for the conference.

Take care,

Milton

Hi Milton,
Thanks for joining the community, and I hope you can help in planning for a Gandhi-King conference at Stanford next fall. This is mostly the initiative of Gandhians in the US who want closer ties with Americans who promote King's ideals.
Clay
