For Global Peace with Social Justice in a Sustainable Environment

I need everyone's help to get an idea into the web-o-sphere. What might happen if all of the anti-war pro-peace folks out there (and their friends and families) started walking the talk and gave up driving their cars in protest? It's not a crazy idea, but one that I have tested for the last month and if it works for me (been driving for 40 years) it can work for anyone. Now, I walk, ride a bike, take public transportation or catch a ride with a friend. It is a very personal statement, like burning a draft card, except that it is legal. Imagine that, a non-violent social game changer that doesn't even require a permit to organize! Who out there is a tech savvy person that can help this social activist spread a simple idea that has the power to redirect the billions of dollars that is going to oil ministers and the war machine to kinder and gentler pursuits?

Hi Clay: The premise is to reduce the flow of money into natural resource hoarding coffers (OPEC and other Multi-National entities) who often use the profits for less than socially or economically just purposes. Certainly, reducing the number of cars on the road would reduce pollution levels. I recenetly spoke to a Chinese scholar who was quite adamant that his countrymen NOT adopt current Western transporation habits because he believed that China could quickly become crippled environmentally from that level of resource abuse. Also, for any former drivers who might now walk or bike more; it could improve their personal health - thereby reducing potential medical costs. Finally, if demand is reduced for natural resource consumption (because people become better stewards), perhaps the gaps in wealth and poverty would not be so significant. Peace is often a result of justice and harmony. Maybe this simple act could bring that about?

This is an interesting idea, although it is more feasible for some people than for others. I also wonder how a decline in traffic and oil consumption will necessarily lead to global peace.
