The Gandhi-King Community

For Global Peace with Social Justice in a Sustainable Environment

2009/2010 Fellowship Application is now OPEN!

This is our first blog post within the Gandhi-King Community and we want to start off by saying, "Hello out there!" We're inspired by the nature of the work being done by the community here and we look forward to learning more about all of you and about the work that you are all involved in.

Our organization, The Modern Story, is a grassroots educational program that bridges the technological divide by introducing a media program to secondary government schools in India. Through a Fellowship program, TMS positions highly innovative leaders in the classroom with children of daily wageworkers who are from traditionally oppressed religious and caste minorities. During an eighth-month term, students learn to tell stories of personal, social, and environmental importance through the digital storytelling medium.

We are now opening the application process for our 2009/2010 Fellowship. We recruit dynamic individuals from top institutions with strong backgrounds in creative technology and leadership skills, as well as an interest in bridging the digital and educational divide on a global level. Fellows will work at two schools in the greater Hyderabad area for a period of eight consecutive months (September-April). There are two fellowship positions available.

The purpose of The Modern Story Fellowship is to 1) introduce and sustain progressive pedagogy and a creative multimedia curriculum in governmental schools in the greater Hyderabad region, and 2) offer recent college graduates the opportunity to participate directly in volunteer work abroad within the fields of education and technology. Please feel free to pass along the information for the fellowship within your communities and networks to those who may be interested. See more details at: http://themodernstory.wordpress.com/fellowship

We're eager to collaborate with others, so please send us a note here or at themodernstory@gmail.com.
