Why are you interested in the Gandhi-King Community?
Both Gandhi ji and Martin Luther King have been an inspiration for me since I read about them as part of my school curriculum. After completing my Master's in Social Work from Indore (MP), I started working in the social development sector, first as Welfare Officer in a Steel plant, then a Sub-editor in Deshbandhu in Raipur. In 1989, I moved to Ahmedabad to work for National Association for the Blind and then realised the exclusion and injustice faced by people with disabilities. During the course of time, I also realised that the most marginalised are the people with multiple disabilities.

In 1997, I have helped set up Sense International (India), a non-government organisation to develop services for deafblind people in India. Deafblindness is combination of visual and hearing impairment, which leads to severe challenges in communication, mobility and accessing information. Because 95% of everything we learn, comes from what we see & hear, one can imagine the isolation deafblind people face.

Thanks to the support from partners, we have taken deafblind services from 1 to 38 in the last 12 years and by providing deafblind people the opportunity to learn, I hope to bring social justice to them.
