For Global Peace with Social Justice in a Sustainable Environment

Lessons from the bygone era of British Raj,rule over India and battle to free Indians and Africans from the Yoke of Slavery.

Dear friends at Ghandi King foundation,

I am reading a book by Lawrence James on the Raj-The Making of British India and wondered whether we can have a symposium or global meet to discuss and drive forward an agnda of change to heal the world and not repeat or allowthe mindset which wants to take the world back into reverese gear into that era which led to colonisation and subjugation of peoples as we say day in day out wars and conflicts.

Indeed,it was only last week that President of Argentine call UK PM David Cameroon of having a colonial mindset when he spoke of defending Falklands Island of the shores of Argentina as sacrosanct britihs territory when Argentine claim it as thier very own Malvinas.

After all,we didnt bring anything in the world of material nature and want take any riches with us when folks die.

Indeed, reading about Britihs rule, one feels upset that over sixty to eighty percent of produce by farmers was taken by the government in taxes just like the Moghuls used to do and many innocent folks like the Irish died in famine in bengal, once a prosperous, successfull state in India, which was taken over by the East India Company.Indeed,in UK,over a 1000 years ago,the King used to take only 10 percent as taxes as tithe.

The east india company also raised taxes and also fought wars to balance its books and raised money on London capital markets in advance for wars with a security of future taxes from Indians to pay the loans for wars.

Hence, how to stop slaughter and heal the world as two wars in Iraq,Afghanisthan and all has destablised the world and cost trillions of dollars, when a few bilions could have helped to heal, educate and save the world or atelast pacify and calm warring factions as troops fight on thier bellies and pay.

Indeed,in India in 1852-53 the total revenue was£20.4 million the biggest charge was for military purposes and security like today, and only a narrowest margin was left for public works, education and allocation for non-english school was just £15,000 and construction of road building was about £110,250.

So was it any wonder,Ghadnji and co had had enough and started Quit india non violent movement.Arent the same distress signal by civil disobedience and riots now taking place in Greece,UK and elsewhere being played out by government profligaty and mismanagement and wars?
