Why are you interested in the Gandhi-King Community?: I am a Ph.D Student at Virginia Tech University in the ASPECT program (Alliance for Social, Political, Ethical, and Cultural Thought). I work with the newly formed (in the wake of the April 16th shootings) Center for Peace Studies and Violence Prevention.

I received my Master's degree in Peace Studies and Conflict Resolution at Naropa University. Throughout my time at Naropa (North America's only Buddhist University) I worked closely with Sudarshan Kapur, author of the inspiring "Raising Up A Prophet: An African American Encounter with Gandhi." I was the Student Coordinator for the Rocky Mountain Peace and Justice Center for years, and founded Students For Peace and Justice two years ago.

In the summer of 2008 I directed at organizing the protests that took place that the 2008 Democratic National Convention in Denver. I organized "Resurrection City Free University," (RCFU) in honor of the 40th Anniversary of the original Resurrection City, a free university that ran the whole week of of the DNC in a city park and featured over 40 courses from some of America's most notable peace and justice educators and organizers. It was my honor to have Dr. Vincent Harding open RCFU with a historic course that he designed for the event entitled "The Road to Resurrection City," which was attended by nearly 1000 people. In addition to all the formal courses, we offered daily nonviolence trainings and town hall meetings.

Luckily for us, it didn't rain and become "Mud City," and so over the course of the week we had over 20,000 participants.

I am honored to be a part of this community and look forward to expanding our collective ability to spread the message and action of peace and justice.

Let me start by acknowledging Alice Bosley’s first posting and her thoughtful coverage of making Gandhi’s message accessible to a younger generation.
