For Global Peace with Social Justice in a Sustainable Environment

Post Graduate Departments of Economics and Sociology organized a lecture by a German Scholar Maria Chaya Schupp on 4-1-2012. Maria Chaya made her presentation based on 30 case studies of women in difficult circumstances who were forced into sex work under different circumstances such as betrayal by family members and friends, poverty and deprivation, domestic violence and parasite relatives. She also showed her film profiling women and children struggling to survive and landholding by NGO OASIS working in Falkland Road, Grant road and Kamatipura. It was followed by animated discussion and interventions that conveyed that Maria’s research had shattered several myths regarding ‘women’s choice’ in choosing occupation.
