I have just finished reading the book on Ghandiji by Gianni Sofri,Ghandi and India,A centuary in focus and also a book The Africa House by Christina Lamb, story of a Lt.Colonel with a privileged background of a familiy Estate In Surrey,First world war, second world war,DSO and then building an English estate in Zambia africa and having friends in high places in UK and Africa which captures the good, bad and ugly treatment of Africans, which we have seen the effects of even now with African resentment of British Imperialism and colonial rule. One good aspect was that Stuart Gore brown did feel kindness towards and helped to create employment and school, hospital and also gave bursary so that leaders such as Kenneth Kaunda came to the fore .Kenneth Kaunda was influenced by Ghandijis non violent struggle for Zambias freedom from colonial rule and who was a also a vegetarian. Now I have started reading Bury My Heart At Wounded Knee by Dee Brown,an indian History of the American west,an appaling story of massacre, abuse and confiscation of some poor blighters in the name of justified acquisition through belief that Christians have dominion over all darkies and earths treasures and dominion over animals so that black bretherns and sisters got it in the neck by being captured and sent to work as slaves and the American natives got slaughtered as might is right and our needs are greater then yours.Phew.
So it is amazing that in less then a centuary in the worlds affairs we have seen Ghandiji triumph,Martin Luther King triumph in spirit with his dream speech that the first Black and White President has been elected. Will he heal the world and make christians trully loving, gentle folks without racism, facism, sexism? On Sunday,I went to an annual Clifton Diocesan Glastonbury Pilgrimage titled "Mary Woman of Hope" which started at St.Marys Church with Roasry Procession and then there was a Mass of Anointing in the Abbey. Two Indian were among the four catholic who carried the Statue of Virgin Mary and there were some other Indians who helped to clear up as well as the Afro Carribean Television Presenter Sherry Eugene who did miming and used to be our Patron with her daughters and I spoke to her afterwards and she said that she is still around and does TV work.
When my son In law asked me if I wanted to go for the healing for the sick where the priest crosses your head with the sign of the cross and also crosses your palms with Holy Oil.So I said that I wasnt sick but then I found out that even if onesisnt physically sick,it helps the spirit so I went along and got blessed by an African catholic Priest.Indeed,Ghandiji wrote that he accepted Jesus Christ as a divine being,an avtar of God but not the only God and as Hindus have many Gods, over two hundred plus million more at the last count,I have mentioned toHindus that one more want go amiss and accept Jesus as a manifestation of God,who comes don to mother earth from time to time in human form, just as Lord Krishna came down about five hundred years ago.
The Mass also mentioned the three catholic martyrs who were murdered trhough horrific pain by the Kings henchmen, namely blessed Richard Whiting,Roger James and JohnThorne at the Tor,Glastonbury. If the white christian brethersn did such horrendous things and were UK talebans to fellow white christian brtehrens then it beggars beliefs what they would do to darkies who they branded as heathens? so is it any wonder that the world is still under turmoil and no peace? But alas Ghandi King foundation gives us hope. Will President Obama do the decent hing and appoint Clayborne Carson as UN Ambassador and many of the folks from the foundation in high position as Chief Archbishop of USA like Desmond Tutu and as ambasaddors to Holy Sea and also as UK ambassador and help change the world with moral and spiritual folks in high places to bring change top down as after all civil rights activist gave thier lives to make it possible for him to b number one in white h
