African-American Tour Marks 50th Anniversary of King's Indian Trip

The 50th anniversary of King's historic journey was commemorated in February with a visit to India by King’s son, Martin Luther King III, and his wife Arndrea Waters; members of the U.S. Congress, including Representatives John Lewis, Spencer Bachus, Shirley Jackson Lee, Al Green, and Jim McDermott; former UN ambassador Andrew Young; Clayborne Carson, editor of King's papers; jazz musician Herbie Hancock; and others. This State Department–sponsored tour will include two musical performances by Hancock plus a special tribute by Indian musicians. The tour includes events in New Delhi (14-17 February), Mumbai (18-19 February), and Ahmedabad (20 February). Photos.
