Why are you interested in the Gandhi-King Community?
I received my Bachelor's in Communications in May of 2010 with a double minor in History and African-American history. I have a strong passion in African-American history with a concentration in the Civil Rights Movement. I am also a member of the Civil Rights Heritage Center on the campus of IU South Bend. At the Center, I have been blessed to coordinate five "Church in the Movement" programs.......this historically deals with the role of (Christian) churches during the Civil Rights Movement and what our churches are doing in our communities today.

I'm thankful for the life and legacy of one of my mentors that I've studied for over twenty years....Pastor Dr. Martin Luther King! He is one of the greatest social prophets that God has sent to America. Just as Gandhi inspired King through non-violence, Dr. King has inspired and challenged me to speak about the love of Jesus. This is that love that transformed an enemy into a friend! This is the love that King carried with him from his pulpit or wherever he was invited to speak around the world. I follow the same words that he publicly spoke at Mason Temple, April 3, 1968: "I just want to do God's will!"

By the grace of God, I pray as a Christian to minister the gospel of Jesus Christ and inspire African-Americans to appreciate their heritage.....and any culture as welll. By the grace of God, We Shall Overcome!!!

I also have a myspace page too. If you so desire, you can talk with me there too. I have a nice background layout of Dr. King himself. Have Fun!!

Martin Luther King (and Julia Howe) on War

Posted on May 15, 2009 at 7:00pm 0 Comments

In the latter years of his life, Dr. King would speak openly against the war in Vietnam. His "three evils" were racism, poverty, and war. His used the platform that he was given by God himself to declare a moral voice to America and let the world know that violence and poverty were wrong.

Dr. King would use the same message to different audiences, yet he knew who his audience was and his message was still the same!

-he spoke calmly at Riverside Church, but the message was still… Continue

The Pope's Easter message

Posted on April 13, 2009 at 11:05am 1 Comment

I admire the Pope's message as we reflect the Easter season. As men and women of faith, we must pray to God for the end of war. Our president is in the midst of making very crucial decisions. My heart goes out to the families of our men and women over in Iraq and Afghanistan. Dr. King's three evils were racism, poverty, and war. I agree as well. King was a founding member and the first president of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference. Their motto was, "To Redeem the Soul of America".… Continue

Dr. King on Easter Wknd-April 1963!!!! Happy Easter everybody!!!

Easter Weekend.....1963!!!

Dr. Martin Luther King was arrested in Birmingham, AL for helping to fight for racial equality. Instead of fighting the police and racism, he kneeled in prayer to God along with many others. While in jail, he wrote the famous "Letter from a Birmingham Jail!" A letter in response to criticism from local Birmingham preachers urging him to call off the protests in the city. One message stated there was that the word "wait" almost always meant… Continue
