Why are you interested in the Gandhi-King Community?
I am the inaugural Humanities Scholar in Residence at the Medical University of South Carolina. I am charged with the task of strengthening the humanities presence in a large academic health center that includes a hospital and schools of Dental Medicine, Graduate School, College of Health Professions, College of Medicine, College of Nursing and College of Pharmacy.

I have conducted extensive research on the Black Panther Party and co-wrote REVOLUTIONARY SUICIDE, the autobiography of Huey P. Newton.

My current research and writing is focused on academic success of minority students in higher education, and also in-depth studies of Gullah/Geechee communities in South Carolina and Georgia. I currently serve on the Gullah/Geechee Cultural Heritage Corridor Commission that covers coastal North Carolina, Soujth Carolina, Georgia and Florida.

I am absolutely and totally committed to Peace and Social Justice. The late Howard Thurman and Septima Clark were among my many wonderful mentors and role models.
