DESCRIPTION:The Martin Luther King, Jr., Research and Education Instit
 ute at Stanford University will sponsor a major international conferen
 ce on July 16-17. The conference sessions will bring together insightf
 ul experts and social activists of all ages to share ideas about how t
 o build a broadly conceived effort to achieve global peace with social
  justice in a sustainable environment. On Friday, July 16, introductor
 y session will take place in the morning, and during the afternoon Tav
 is Smiley will moderate a panel discussion that will be broadcast nati
 onally. Saturday workshops will be held for K-12 teachers and for part
 icipants interested in continued collaboration following the conferenc
 e.\nAmong the invited speakers are Mary King of University for Peace, 
 headquartered in Costa Rica; innovative educator Kiran Sethi, founder 
 of Riverside School in India; Michael Nagler, founder of the Metta Cen
 ter for Nonviolence Education in Berkeley; King advisor and Veterans o
 f Hope director Vincent Harding; Dorothy Cotton, former director of SC
 LC's citizenship education program; Eric Mann, director of the Strateg
 y Center in Los Angeles; King Institute Scholar in Residence Clarence 
 Jones; and Clayborne Carson, founder of the King Institute. All sessio
 ns will be open to the public, but, if space is limited, preference wi
 ll be given to those on the RSVP Guest List. A major goal of the confe
 rence will be to create an enduring global network of dedicated, nonvi
