With Gandhi Museum secretary R. Rengasamy, laying wreath on Gandhi statute

On 16 September, I spoke in Madurai at the Gandhi Memorial Museum, where Martin Luther King, Jr. had visit during his 1959 tour of India. It was in Madurai in the year 1921, Gandhiji adopted for the first time the line cloth as his mode of dress. In 1946 Gandhiji visited Madurai's great Meenakshi Amman Temple to celebrate the opening of the Temple's doors to Harijans. In 1955 the historic Tamukkam Palace of Rani Mangammal of Nayak dynasty was gifted by the Tamilnadu state Government to the Gandhi Smarak Nidhi for the purpose of housing Gandhi Memorial Museum.
